Having been a leader in external tubular coatings for many years and recognizing the need for new casing coating technology that could withstand oil field corrosion conditions, as well as be tough enough to survive the treatment casing takes in its normal handling operations, we have further developed our original Bond-Coat external casing to suit this type of application.
Flint-Coat, is an actual flint reinforced coating that can be applied from tip to tip on the casing/tubing. This anti-corrosion coating is strong enough to withstand the trip downhole as well as the extreme forces from normal handling tools.
Enpro has invested into a state of the art 45,000 Sq.mtrs automated facility in Dammam Industrial area 3 with a coating capacity of over 150,000 feet pipes per month which is expected to get doubled in the near future.
An added benefit to corrosion control is achieved when using Flint-Coat through the production zone where cement is applied. The illustration shows a common communication problem. As oil enters the casing, some of the production can be lost to a thief zone via the micro annulus from an imperfect cement bond to untreated casing.
Another costly problem is water encroachment into the production zone. With the cement adhering to the Flint-Coat, a near perfect bond is achieved. Wellbore and casing become one, leaving no avenue for communication.
Once the joints have been blasted, each joint is then coated with Bond-Coat’s proprietary mix of epoxy resin followed by a layer of flint aggregate. Post curing, a final layer of resin is applied. The process of placing flint aggregate between two layers of resin results in a reinforced coating which is tougher than any other coating or wrap in the world.
Final Inspection is done. Threads are checked and cleaned and the thread protectors are replaced. Customer’s name, weight and grade is stenciled onto the pipe.
